About us

The German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Greece) while celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024, assumes a pivotal role as a two-way gateway, facilitating investment, trade, and broader economic collaborations between Greece, Germany, and Cyprus. AHK Greece boasts a membership of over 950 members and is an integral part of the Worldwide Network of German Chambers of Commerce abroad, which operates through 150 offices in 93 countries. This global network encompasses 48,000 member companies and employs more than 2,300 AHK professionals in total. AHK Greece maintains offices in both Athens and Thessaloniki and delivers a comprehensive array of services that adhere to high-quality standards.

Under the initiative by the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the German Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce, in collaboration with the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and with the support of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), organized the Hellenic-German Economic Forum – Vision and Investment Opportunities on March 9, 2020, at the "House of the German Economy" in Berlin. Alongside the conference, B2B and G2G meetings were held.

The Anuga Fair is the world's leading food and beverage trade fair. It takes place in Cologne, Germany. The event is organized every two years at the KOELNMESSE exhibition center. The German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce represents ANUGA in Greece, along with a wider range of exhibitions from the most important German Exhibition Organizations. In 2023, Greece ranked in the Top 5 in terms of both the number of participants and the exhibition space. Anuga is a fundamental event for the German exhibition industry, offering economic benefits, international exposure, innovation, networking opportunities, etc. The exhibition plays a crucial role in positioning Germany as a leading force in the exhibition sector.

In 2023, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce participated in the World Congress of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which took place again after 5 years. Representatives from 93 countries gathered at the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) in Berlin. In addition to numerous representatives from bilateral chambers and various industry sectors, the conference featured a speech by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Dr. Robert Habeck. The participation of the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce strengthened the connection with Germany and its network members, providing valuable insights into the current challenges of the global network of bilateral German chambers.

The GoInt project, funded by Interreg Greece – Bulgaria and implemented on the Greek side by the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the Italian Hellenic Chamber of Commerce of Thessaloniki, aimed to boost international exports for companies in the agrifood sector. In 2022, the two bilateral chambers, in cooperation with BSMEPA of Bulgaria, organized a business mission to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with companies from the sector. The mission visited Foodexpo Vietnam and met with colleagues from the German-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce in Ho Chi Minh City.

In June 2023, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce organized, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), a business mission for the energy sector from 5th to 7th December 2023. A total of 6 German companies presented innovative products and collaboration opportunities. The mission began with a seminar, during which the German companies showcased their products and services to a wide audience of representatives from Greek companies and organizations. Invited speakers from Greece and Germany accompanied the seminar with valuable insights into the development of the German market and the prospects of the energy sector in Greece.

As part of the Thessaloniki Helexpo Forum, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce organized a hybrid panel discussion in which the European initiative GAIA-X was presented. Members of the Board of Directors and members of the German-Hellenic Chamber attended the panel in person, while representatives from the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and other representatives from the European digital data industry participated digitally.

Each year during the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), the German Hellenic Chamber organizes one of the most significant business events, the Business Dinner. The event is designed to feature a keynote speech by a ministerial official and a Q&A session that offers direct dialogue between the government and the business community. The 7th Business Dinner in 2023 gathered approximately 350 representatives from Greek and German companies, as well as notable figures from the economy, politics, local, and regional government.

Within the framework of its activities in the Education and Training sector, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce organizes 4-day seminars for Energy Scouts aimed at resource and energy efficiency targeting young employees. The seminars were developed as part of the Young Energy Europe project funded by the European Climate Protection Initiative (EUKI) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK).

In 2023, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce, with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), organized a business mission for German companies in the maritime sector to Piraeus. The 12 German companies had the opportunity to get to know the Greek market and explore the diverse possibilities for applying German products and services in the maritime industry. They presented their products and services during a seminar and explored new collaborations with Greek entrepreneurs through personal B2B meetings.

As part of the ONTOCHAIN project, funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 and the Next Generation Internet Initiative, the German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce organized the ONTOCHAIN SUMMIT for Trustworthy Internet in Berlin in June 2022. The event focused on the development of the ONTOCHAIN software system, highlighting the 3rd open call to Web3 Innovators for the development of new applications and services aimed at creating an ecosystem of applications for a trustworthy, traceable, and transparent internet.

In the realm of vocational education and training, the German Hellenic Chamber (AHK Greece) initiated the development of the dual vocational education system in Greece in 2012 . AHK Greece implements programs based on the German Dual Education model, which combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience within companies. In this frame, AHK Greece also certifies training companies and trainers, conducts examinations and provides standards for diplomas.
